  Fall Quarter Classes, 2021

 

Classes through Northgate Community Center, Lifelong Recreation Program are designed for people 50  plus. However, if you are younger than 50, you still can enroll, you just have to register in person so the computer program won’t bump you out.

​

We will all be wearing masks for now and spacing ourselves 6 feet apart.

 

Financial aid is available for all community center classes. Just request the form at the front desk of the community center.

      Beginning Tai Chi and Qigong

​

Thursday, 12:30PM—1:30PM at Northgate Community Center #43216

You will learn the postures of the five elements/seasons of qigong during the first half of class, then I will teach the beginning steps of the tai chi form the second half of the class. I teach the 37-step Yang Style Form in the lineage of Cheng man-Chi’ing.

Creative Writing

Thursday, 1:45PM—3:00PM at Northgate Community Center #43218

Using the gentle and supportive Amherst Writers and Artists method, we will free-write based on prompts I bring or whatever you wish to write about for 10-12 minutes. You have to option to read what you wrote. Feedback from the group is supportive only, focusing on what we liked best.

Free-Writing Workshop   

Discover a gentle, supportive approach to writing. With prompts and creative writing tips, we will free write together in 10-12 minute sessions, followed by only supportive feedback. As an option, your free-writes can be turned into more polished drafts later. Beginning writers are welcome. Workshop meets on online through Zoom.

 Brief Biographies

 

Creative Writing

Annette has been facilitating the Amherst Writers and Artists method of free-writing workshops for seven years, including throughout most of the pandemic online. She earned an MFA in Creative Writing from University of California, Irvine, and a Teaching Certificate from Antioch University. She has taught writing courses in high school, community and private colleges for over 20 years. Her poetry and articles have been published in local and national publications, and she has recently published her first book, with a second book in the works.

 

Tai Chi and Qigong

Annette has been practicing tai chi for a total of 14 years and has been teaching tai chi and qigong for seven years with others and alone in several schools and facilities. The style of tai chi and qigong Annette teaches is the 37-step Yang style form in the lineage of Cheng man-Chi’ng. Along with completing many trainings and workshops locally and abroad, her primary teacher has been David Goodell at his school, the Seattle School of Tai Chi Chuan.
